It is very hard to summarize in a single article a whole week of discovery of Cambridge. From our arrival, we have to get back our keys then to install and to go shopping. It was necessary to make our 11m2 become our new house, looks like us and comforts us. At the beginning, this week was diffuclt morally, new life which begins does not still rhyme with funny from the first day. The next days: discovery of the Anglia Ruskin university, situated five minutes walk of the YMCA, the place were we live and first steps in the city. We also learned to know each of our roommates from all over the world, mostly from Sweden and Germany.
YMCA
The YMCA is a charitable organization which try to reinsert young people in difficulty. Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) is in charge of the 4th and 5th floor of the YMCA were students from the university are living. I live in the 4th floor, the cleaner one because it has been refurbished last summer. Axelle and Louise are living in the 5th floor. On the 4th floor, we all share a bathroom were there is 4 showers and 4 toilets. It is a bit hard to live with 20 people in the same bathroom...
It is situated in the city center which is perfect for us because we don't have to buy a bicycle. We are like 10 minutes walk from the city center (were there are shops) and 5 minutes walk from ARU.
Cambridge
I don't know very well yet the city of Cambridge but in one week I had enough time to conclude some things. Firstly, it is a biiiig student city, mostly because of the Cambridge University represented by 20 colleges (next week : article about the colleges) and because of ARU. There are also a lot of private colleges specialized. I really think that the average age of this city is around 25 years old !
Architecturaly speaking, the city looks like a "Harry Potter" city, with lots of beautiful monuments, often brick-built red and a little bit glaucous.
Concerning the weather, we had 2 beautiful days of sun followed by 3 days of cloudy weather. The temperature here is so coooold and someone told us that it is because Cambridge is situated on the same latitude as Siberia and no mountains are separating the two... YOUHOU.
To hold of this week:
A main part full of shopping
New meetings
A new university
A new city
A new history to learn
A new life
